Candidates must have well-established experience in writing, editing, and deadline driven project management, as well as a firm understanding of and enthusiasm for the greater Evansville, IN, area.

Working closely with the editor and the creative director, the managing editor is responsible for the planning and execution of all TPG content. The managing editor leads a team of staff and freelance writers in the completion of assignments and is the gatekeeper of the magazines’ voice, tone, style, process, and fact-checks. The managing editor also is responsible for producing content himself/herself.

Minimum skills required include a B.A. or advanced degree in journalism or related field and working knowledge of Word and Excel. Experience in visual storytelling and/or producing for print is desired; Experience making edits in InDesign also is a plus.

Essential skills include project management, attention to detail, superior writing, excellent communication, creativity, multitasking, workplace maturity, and decision making, within a deadline-driven environment.

The Managing Editor’s responsibilities include maintaining issue story lineups, enforcing copy and photo deadlines, managing editorial staff including interns, managing freelance writers, working with art department to assign photos, preparing for and attending editorial planning meetings, writing social media posts, writing stories, writing content for the E Living electronic newsletter, editing stories, and other work as required to produce high quality magazines on a monthly basis.

Great Lakes Publishing seeks an Associate Editor, Custom Media for our Cleveland or Columbus office. We’re looking for a savvy editor with experience in reporting, writing and editing various forms of prose for our client publications in travel, business and specialty fields. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have superior copyediting and proofreading skills, familiarity with AP style and inherent skill with editing and rewriting. As an editor in our Custom Media department, this person should be professional and work well in a client-driven environment in which creativity and organization are critical. This position reports to the managing editor in Columbus and serves as Project Manager and client liaison for multiple projects occurring simultaneously.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assigns and edits stories for various client-driven products
  • Writes copy for client-driven products
  • Fact checks or assigns fact checking required by a project
  • Works directly with client as project manager and is responsible for proof deadlines
  • Collaborates with art directors, account executives and clients
  • Proofs and corrects pages in InCopy/InDesign
  • Manages internal databases and is familiar with Excel
  • Prioritizes multiple assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

QUALIFICATIONS:
