Associate Art Director
St. Louis (1-30-12)

St. Louis Magazine is seeking an Associate Art Director to assist with the print edition.

What we are looking for:

This full-time, entry-level designer will report to the Art Director and manage design of the front of the book, some departments and some features for the print edition. He or she will also assist in the creation of advertorial design, circulation materials, promotional/marketing materials and ad design.

Responsibilities may include:

·   Design of editorial sections

·   Design of some editorial feature stories

·   Design of materials for circulation, Web, marketing and advertising departments

·   Assisting the Art Director on photo-shoots and with propping/styling

·   Conceptualizing and assigning illustration and photography

·   Stock photo research and art requests

Requirements:

·   Bachelor's degree in a related field

·   1-3 years experience

·   Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite 5—particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop

·   Sophisticated sense of design and typography

·   Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·   Ability to work collaboratively

·   Strong organizational and time-management skills

·   Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Columbus Monthly is seeking a creative, passionate Editor to lead its editorial staff. This critical position will manage all content for the monthly magazine and daily website covering culture, dining, entertainment, news and city life. Columbus Monthly seeks to inspire readers with a mix of in-depth features, engaging service packages and smart reporting on local trends and topics. The ideal candidate will have a strong vision for making the magazine an essential part of readers’ lives, and the leadership skills needed to implement that vision.

As the Columbus Monthly Editor, you will:

•Motivate and inspire a talented editorial team in a collaborative environment;

•Manage coverage selection and overall editorial direction of Columbus Monthly;

•Assign stories to staff and freelance writers and edit their material;

•Write articles and columns in a distinctive and engaging voice;

•Work closely with photo and art directors to assemble a compelling visual package;

•And serve as a public spokesperson for the magazine, including radio and TV appearances.

Art Director

The Dispatch Printing Company seeks a talented, motivated Art Director to lead the graphic design operations of its magazine division. This position is responsible for implementing the visual identity of a group of monthly, bimonthly and specialty magazines, including: Columbus Monthly, Capital Style, Columbus CEO and Columbus Crave. The Art Director is a passionate leader who works closely with writers, editors and photographers to conceptualize ideas that are smart and provocative and deliver engaging designs that connect with each magazine’s readers.

As the Art Director, you will:

·Manage layout and design operations for a group of monthly, bimonthly and specialty glossy magazines;

·Motivate and inspire a talented design team in a collaborative environment;

·Thrive under pressure while maintaining a fast-paced production schedule and juggling overlapping deadlines;

·Coordinate with outside printing facilities to ensure timely and accurate delivery of magazine pages;

·Maintain consistent style and design quality in accordance with readership, editorial and advertising goals;

·And work closely with the photo director and publication editors to determine and implement the unique visual identity of each magazine.

The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated ability to design compelling print layouts with a sense of style and readability, and must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite. Must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of eight years of related experience, including positions of increasing responsibility at a newspaper or magazine.
