CITY AND REGIONAL MAGAZINE ASSOCIATION
ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF 19th ANNUAL CITY AND REGIONAL MAGAZINE
AWARDS
LOS ANGELES - Twenty-three
magazines took home awards at the 19th annual City and Regional
Magazine Awards competition in Chicago at City and Regional
Magazine Associations Annual Conference. Judges from
the University of Missouri-Columbia and journalism professionals
from around the country selected 63 winning entries in 21
categories from the 844 submissions.
Three magazines
were this years big winners: Los Angeles magazine took
home nine awards. Boston and Texas Monthly magazines each
took home eight. Atlanta, Cincinnati, Milwaukee and Philadelphia
each took home four awards.
In the prestigious
General Excellence category for magazines with a circulation
of 60,000 or more, Texas Monthly won the gold award; Boston
took home the silver; and San Francisco received the bronze.
For magazines with
a circulation of 30,000 to 60,000, Milwaukee grabbed the gold
for general excellence, HOUR Detroit received the silver;
and Virginia Living took the bronze award. For magazines with
a circulation of less than 30,000, Aspen won the gold award;
Cincinnati took home the silver; and At Home in Arkansas received
the bronze. The general excellence awards are kept secret
from magazines until the awards ceremony.
Texas Monthly also
captured gold awards in Reporting, Feature Story, and Excellence
in Writing and Design. Los Angeles took gold in Criticism,
Personality Profile, Feature Design and Designer of the Year,
while Chicago won the top prize for Food/Dining Criticism
and Richmond for Civic Journalism.
The contest is
a 19-year-old national competition coordinated by the University
of Missouri School of Journalism and CRMA. Winners were announced
in Chicago on June 7, 2004 at the awards banquet, which was
the climax of CRMAs 28th Annual Conference. The competition
is open to the approximately 100 members of CRMA and other
city and regional magazines that qualify.
