Perennial CRMA winner Texas Monthly won gold awards in four categories: reporting, feature story, excellence in writing and designer of the year. Atlanta and Chicago magazines each took three gold awards, and Philadelphia and Los Angeles each won two gold awards. Diablo, D (Dallas), Indianapolis Monthly, Las Vegas Life, San Francisco and Vancouver magazines all captured one gold.
This contest garnered more than 850 entries from 68 city or regional magazines across North America. In all, 24 different magazines won gold, silver, or bronze awards.
The contest is a 20-year-old competition, which has been coordinated by the University of Missouri School of Journalism on behalf of CRMA for the past nine years. Judges from such prestigious national magazine titles as National Geographic, Good Housekeeping, Sports Illustrated, Sunset, and Outside joined journalism scholars from the Missouri School of Journalism to select the winners.
