6/27/08 – Columbus Monthly

Columbus Monthly, an award-winning city magazine covering everything from politics to poverty and bars to boutiques, is looking for two staff members.

Writer: Produce heavily researched, well-crafted stories on a variety of topics. Some editing may be involved, as well as contributing to team projects and participating in the nuts-and-bolts of getting a magazine out each month. The ideal candidate has a solid journalism background, a great sense of curiosity (and humor), the patience and persistence to do long-form pieces, the ability to meet deadlines, a distinctive and versatile writing style and a willingness to play well with others. This is not a job for wannabes; writing for your church or company newsletter doesn’t count.

Special sections editor: Coordinate numerous special sections on topics ranging from health to education. Consult with advertising department to figure out content, work with freelance writers, edit stories, oversee copy through the production cycle. Also involves various responsibilities for the magazine’s regular issue and niche publications, including proofreading and assigning/collecting photos.

These are two great opportunities for journalists with at least a couple of years of experience to shine for a magazine that’s built a sterling reputation for the past 33 years as an independent voice in a dynamic city. (See columbusmonthly.com.)
